Essential Tips for a Smooth Whale Watching Experience

Everything you need to know before boarding, from timing and parking to what to pack and enjoy while at sea.

Before Your Trip

  • Check your reservation confirmation for departure time.
  • Print or save directions to 7 Seas Whale Watch.
  • Plan extra travel time for traffic, especially on summer weekends (Route 128 North into Gloucester can be slow).
  • Plan for parking: There are two municipal parking lots located adjacent to our boat dock. The cost is .50/hour or $5 for the day.

Good To Know

  • Mobile signal is limited once offshore. Consider bringing a book or activities for kids. The Privateer IV has an onboard library, coloring pages, and educational materials from your naturalist.
  • Credit card machines do not work at sea—bring cash for the snack bar.
  • Ocean temperatures are 10–15°F colder than on land. Dress in layers. Heated cabin available, but most will want to spend time on deck.

What To Bring

  • Warm jacket and layers, rubber-soled shoes or sneakers
  • Sunscreen & sunglasses
  • Camera with ample memory and fully charged battery
  • Motion sickness medication or patch if desired
  • Snacks/drinks or cash for the snack bar
